Executive Coach, Appraiser & Charity Worker

Empowering people, one at a time

My Story

I'm a doctor. I worked in the NHS for over 40 years. I was proud to become a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in 1991. I loved talking to patients. However, little did I know that after almost 20 years, I would discover a new career path - as a Medical Expert, Board Member, Medical Teacher, Executive Coach, Medical Appraiser and Part-Time Locum. My Board work at Mildmay Hospital and Medcare UK led me to Uganda, where I now chair a programme to build new facilities for Palliative care and Paediatric rehabilitation in rural areas of that great country.

When I became self-employed in 2009 I experienced the uncertainty of losing a regular income whilst dealing with the enhanced responsibility of running my own small company. Meanwhile the NHS was coming under increasing pressure. Funding dwindled and vacancies increased; the Covid pandemic was a perfect storm and many people simply lost career focus. Mamy former colleagues tell me they became unable to do the job as well as they used to. Many left the NHS altogether.

As a Coach, I can help if you are setting up your own business, if you are moving on from employment to self employment, or if you are seeking a new focus or direction. I can help you utilise the annual Appraisal process to properly plan for your future.

I have a passion to help staff both in the NHS and outside through Coaching. I want you to be able to identify your options and opportunities, both personal and professional, and to move on the next and most fulfilling phase of your life.

How do I Coach?

I practice active listening, allowing you to check your goals, explore ideas, issues, options and solutions, and to test them to determine actions. Coaching is about self development and career progression; it is mainly work focussed but discussions invariably involve work/life issues.

Coaching is a personal and career development process where solutions are self defined without being directed by the Coach, although a good Coach will challenge your options, aspirations and commitment.

Coaching is individually planned on a 1 to 1 basis, following an initial no-obligation 30 minute conversation which you can book here. I recommend a series of 90-minute sessions, usually by Videoconference, every 2-4 weeks.

Coaching is a skilled activity, and as a Trained Executive Coach with a Masters Level qualification (ILM7), and 40+ years experience in the NHS, I have the skills and experience to coach you.
